10 Google Resources for Teachers
Google Apps has provided teachers with the ability to reach beyond essential learning targets and standards. Below I have put together 10 resources that general teachers and Health/PE teachers can use for their classroom.
Google Apps and Common Core State Standards
Writing with Google Docs: This website addresses how to use Google Docs to reach writing standards within Common Core. In this article, the author highlights several ways to include Google Docs in the classroom. Students can collaborate on writing pieces together, participate in synchronous or asynchronous debates and peer/self assess using Google Form. These activities and more allow students to collaborate while achieving Common Core State Standards.
Collaborative Projects and Meeting Students’ Goal: This teacher’s weebly page provides reasoning to how Google Docs can help students and teachers meet their CCSS goals. Within the webpage, the author provides an excellent article discussing how CCSS and technology are strongly linked. Also, this author provides quick and easy links for how to use different parts of Google Docs
Google Apps in the General Classroom
100 Ways to Use Google Drive: This site provides teachers with 100 ways to use Google Drive in their classroom. Each “way” links teachers to the Google Support page on how to do that particular skill. There are different categories for each Google App. The entire web page is designed for quick and easy use by all educators.
What’s so great about Google Drive?: This author is a personal favorite of mine. She blogs about her experience with Google Drive. I think this resource is a great read for skeptical teachers who are unsure about Google Drive in the classroom. The author also provides a short video tour of Google Drive for educators.
38 Idea to Use Google Drive in the Classroom: This site provides short and quick ideas about how to use Google Drive in the Classroom. This website is great for teachers that know how to use Google Apps or Drive but need some inspiration!
Google Apps in Health and Physical Education
Exploring the Secrets of Google Drive: The authors of this presentation provide different ideas and resources for using Google Drive in Physical Education. The authors provide a quick overview of how to use Google Drive. Then the site breaks down how to use Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Presentations in Physical Education.
15 Ways to Use Google Classroom in Physical Education: This blog by Alice Keeler provides educators with 15 different ways to use Google Classroom in PE class. Many PE teachers can be hesitant when using technology. This article gives great rationale and ideas for Google Classroom in PE!
Google Draw: Google in Physical Education: This Google drawing is a quick and easy resource for teachers to see throughout the day. It is a great flyer to put up on an office wall or hand out during professional development.
Setting up a PE Google Classroom Fitness Tracker: This video shows teachers how to set up a fitness tracker for students. This video is short (3:52) and describes how to use iPads or Chromebooks for this particular activity. The author also touches on how to set up the technology so it does not violate any FERPA issues.
14 Ways to Use Google Forms in Health and Physical Education: This article provides 14 ways to use Google Forms in Health and PE classes. The author describes using Forms to provide self-assessment, student-interest and parent feedback. Educators can use Google Forms to gauge interest in events like Field Day and potential upcoming units. Teachers can even use Google Forms to collect data for their Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
